The versatility and effectiveness of the mind map approach can be used to map more ideas and organizing them visually using associations. As a method of developing a mind map, begin with the key issue or problem and radiate out into all the related ideas, issues and opportunities. undefined

Start with a Focus: First, in a general way, describe the theme or the problem you intend to explore. This emphasis will form your concept map and your subject should remain focus.

Free Association: Let go of your mind's filter, and let your thought stream in unhindered. Note down any thoughts, words, or moods that spring to mind in this process and move outwards from the central idea.

Connect and Expand: Search for the linkages and relates among the different areas of your mind map and deepen on those. Feel free to compare what different authors have to say on the same topic and enrich your understanding with the new ideas that emerge.

Diverge and Converge: Help the split of your mind map into two parts by using convergent thinking which means filtering and combining ideas as well as divergent thinking which producing multiple ideas.

A prototype develops the initial design of a product, service or a concept to do research, test functions, and get stakeholder or customer expectations.

Types of Prototypes:

Low-fidelity Prototypes: Such prototypes are reminiscent of simple sketches that are usually developed using various materials such as paper, cardboard and digital wireframing tools. They transmit the essence and core functionality of the proposed solution without going into the communication of finer details.

High-fidelity Prototypes: These prototypes are more sophisticated and are sometimes equipped with interactive components and real-life functionality. The highest fidelity models give testers an almost real experience of how the product after completion may look and work.

Why is Prototyping Necessary?

Prototyping is a tool that fosters the emergence of creative concepts and helps to develop them to ensure the needs of users are satisfied. As prototypes are undergoing beta testing with real users, usability issues and gaps in design are rapidly discovered and fixed well before the completion of the development process.

This part of the design process is made up incrementally using the testing and assessing the results of the respective stages. It is this process of iterations that generates the improvements in prototypes, ultimately leading to the completion of solutions characterized by outstanding ease of use, quality, and the impression of the future. Iteration of prototypes enable not only validation of ideas but also production of the new and improved ones which result not only in quality implementation but also in the process of constant innovation.

Method 4 - SWOT analysis - Mujtaba

SWOT analysis is a strategic tool that identifies Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats related to a project or business (Helms & Nixon, 2010). This structured approach can be instrumental in generating ideas.By pinpointing Strengths, you can uncover opportunities to capitalize on what you do best, inspiring innovative strategies (Andrews, 1971). Weaknesses highlight areas needing improvement, sparking ideas for enhancements and problem-solving (Ferrell & Hartline, 2014).Opportunities offer potential avenues for growth and expansion. Identifying these can stimulate ideas for new ventures or market exploration (Kotler & Armstrong, 2010). Conversely, Threats signal potential risks and challenges, prompting ideas for risk mitigation and resilience-building (Porter, 1980).In essence, SWOT analysis fosters critical thinking, encouraging the generation of creative and strategic ideas tailored to your organization's unique circumstances (Weihrich, 1982).

    Six Thinking Hats is a favorite technique of Edward de Bono that has been designed to add depth to the decision-making, creative and problem-solving processes through a structured thinking procedure. undefined

  • White Hat: Focus on the facts, information, and data. Find out how much you know and what is the data needed to form good ideas.
  • Red Hat: Use emotions, instincts, and intuition to navigate life. Promote unbridled, unguarded outburst of emotions and spontaneous reactions to concepts.
  • Black Hat: A critical and thoughtful approach should be taken. Point out the risks as well as disadvantages and weaknesses in ideas. The hat enables us to think critically.
  • Yellow Hat: Maintain a cheerful and optimistic attitude. Focus on the benefits, the opportunities, and the advantages of ideas. This hat supports thinking creatively and positively.
  • Green Hat: Fuel creativity and innovation. Develop new concepts, run trials, and think outside the line. This cap is all about brainstorming and generating alternative ways.
  • Blue Hat: Control the thinking process. Set up goals, lead the discussion, and track progress. This hat secures that all the brain process is systematic, target oriented, and productive.

    Through the periodic wearing of these hats, individuals or teams can creatively see problems from various perspectives, catch blind spots and become more complete in reaching more creative and well thought out solutions.
